July 21 - September 30 Hope Deans Performs at The Purple Room in Palm Springs

July 21 - September 30 Hope Deans Performs at The Purple Room in Palm Springs

Hope Deans brings a style that is sultry, classy, yet jazzy which makes her an exciting performer to watch on stage. She studied music of the legendary greats like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, B.B. King, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and later Roberta Flack, Phyllis Hyman, Janis Joplin and Natalie Cole, to name a few. In California, Hope started off performing with different musicians and pianists throughout Los Angeles and the Orange County area by sitting in on jam sessions when possible. She had the opportunity to perform at Steamers Jazz Club and Caf with Debbie Ebert and Johnny Blas and at the award winning restaurant The Sky Room in Long Beach. She has even had the pleasure, ironically, of singing a song accompanied by the master pianist for Ms. Nancy Wilson, Mr. Llew Matthews. She was once told by her jazz vocal coach to be more laid back like Ms. Fancy Nancy Wilson, but Hope is more of a sassy kind of performer who says she needs to move and groove when singing cause the body just wants to dance! Hope founded her first band, Doubletake, and soon became a crowd favorite headlining in many clubs and venues. Her musical resume included memorable performances aboard the Queen Mary, The Legendary Blue Guitar in Palm Springs and as a guest performer at the Mrs. California International Pageant. Hope has moved audiences internationally as they enjoyed her style of Jazz, R&B and Blues. The Purple Room also offers a variety of weekly entertainment, at no charge. July 26 - August 6 Stinking Rose Garlic Festival

Stinking Rose Garlic Festival July 26th August 6th Driving up US 101 through Gilroy and your nose knows that you are in the capital of THE STINKING ROSE better know as garlic. The annual garlic festival celebrated anything and everything made with garlic: the food, the flowers, the stalks and even as free garlic ice cream. The festival is in its 38th year and is officially a vampire free zone. The stinking rose name goes back to the times of the Greeks and the Romans. The stinky claim is easy to understand but the plant is actually a member of the Lilly family. The original Greek name scorodon was reportedly crudely translated to Scott for stinky and Rodon mistakenly for rose. Garlic is the Queen of the Allium family, which also includes onions, shallots, chives and ramps. Originating in Asia, it has been a staple for over 7000 years, adopted into many ethnic and regional cuisines as their own. Garlic has many health benefits, from assisting in regulating blood pressure to antioxidant and cancer preventive compounds. Join us for a celebration of this truly remarkable culinary icon, exploring the many varieties and techniques to tame its wild personality. July 30 - HBO Latino Boxing Event Hosted by Fantasy Spring Resort Casino in Indio

As California battles through a sizzling heat wave, the Summer of 2016 will get even hotter on Saturday, July 30, as two of SoCals undefeated top rising stars return to the ring. Undefeated welterweight Antonio Relentless Orozco (24-0, 16 KOs) of San Diego is set to participate in 10-round main event while Golden Boy Promotions stable mate and undefeated NABF Featherweight Champion Joseph Jojo Diaz, Jr. (20-0, 11 KOs) of South El Monte, Calif. will be featured in the 10-round co-main event. Both fights will be televised on HBO Latino Boxing. With Orozco ranked as number one by the WBC and in the top 10 by all major world sanctioning bodies and with Diaz crashing the WBC, IBF and WBO rankings, the stakes have never been higher as world-class boxing returns to Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif. Opponents for Orozco and Diaz will be announced shortly. Antonio Orozco and Joseph Diaz, Jr. are two fighters quickly rising to the top in Golden Boys stable of talent, with both poised to become world champions in the near-future, said Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. This card will be action-packed, making for an exiting summer event that fans should not miss on July 30 at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino and HBO Latino Boxing. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. Unbeaten as a professional, San Diegos Antonio Relentless Orozco has paid his dues on the way to the top, and now his only intention is to get the shot at a world championship that hes craved. Winner of the NABF junior super lightweight title in 2014, the 28-year-old has since defeated former world champions Humberto La Zorrita Soto and Steve 2Pound Forbes, and hot prospect Emmanuel Tranzformer Taylor, and in his most recent bout on March 25, Orozco made another statement with a first round knockout of Miguel Aguacerito Acosta that thrilled the fans at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino. A member of the 2012 United States Olympic team, Joseph JoJo Diaz, Jr. has been seen as a future world champion for years, and now the NABF Featherweight Champion is closing in on that dream. Currently ranked third in the world by the WBC and ninth by the IBF and WBO, the 23-year-old southpaw from South El Monte, California has steadily moved through all opposition at 126 pounds, including Rene Gemelo Alvarado, Ruben Canelito Tamayo and Hugo Guerrero Partida. July 30 - Montgomery Meets Moderism: Two Americas, at The Palm Springs Art Museum

July 30 - Montgomery Meets Moderism: Two Americas, at The Palm Springs Art Museum

Modern America can be understood through the rich visual cultures that emerged from two co-existing perspectives. In the 1950s and 1960s many Americans yearned for a simpler time and looked to the ideals and traditions of the American West, following the hardships of World War II. At the same time others gazed toward a future buoyed by technology and economic growth. Drawn from the museums holdings, this installation positions Hollywood icon George Montgomerys own hand-crafted furniture and bronze sculptures with his collection of traditional Western paintings by such masters as Sydney Laurence, Frank Tenney Johnson, and Joseph Henry Sharp, alongside modernist design by Albert Frey and abstract art as seen in paintings by Lorser Feitelson and Helen Lundeberg. The confluence of historical and modern styles reflects a postwar spirit filled with both nostalgia and optimism. This exhibition is organized by Palm Springs Art Museum.
