Palm Springs City Ordinance
Effective October 17, 2008 the City of Palm Springs passed two ordinances that have affected vacation rentals in the city. The first is vacation rental ordinance #1748, and the other is the event house ordinance #1745. Please access the city’s website at www.palmsprings-ca.gov click on government, departments, planning, then neighbor and others, and scroll down to vacation rentals and event houses.
Listed below are some key points that we want to share with you.
1) Every vacation rental property registered within the city of Palm Springs must provide a telephone number for a local contact who is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and who is required to show up at the property within 45 minutes in the event there is a complaint. All rental properties with McLean Company Rentals will always have someone on call 24/7.
2) No amplified outdoor music of any kind is permitted for vacation rentals. A small stereo at the pool is permissible provided the volume be kept at a reasonable level. Reasonable volume meaning a decibel level which will not offend your neighbors!
3) There is a fixed maximum occupancy limit for each rental property based upon the number of bedrooms, please refer to the ordinance for the detailed information. Please note that any children 3 years and older will require their own bed.
4) The city will be notifying all homes within 300 feet of vacation homes that it is a vacation rental. They have provided phone number (760) 833-7988 for residents to call to report any violations of ordinance #1748. Once a call is made to that phone number, the local contact person will then be called to respond within the 45 minute time frame. Please remember that there is always someone on call. If you have any problems with a neighbor, please call our office immediately and report the issue.
Dispatched police visits to any property where McLean is able to verify a city ordinance has been violated could possibly result in the loss of your security deposit. Security visits made may also result in you being fined.
5) The right to rent a property on a short term basis may be suspended or permanently revoked by the City Manager if there are 4 violations of the Vacation Ordinance within a period of 24 months. Fines for violations are $250 for the first violation and $500 for subsequent violations.
